When I was growing up my father and I would sit down each week with the TV guide (the one that came in the paper) and a highlighter and we would highlight the shows that I would watch for each day, never exceeding 2 hrs per day. If during the week I was dropped off at Grandma’s or Aunt Rita’s the TV guide would go with me so they would know what I had chosen to watch and not allow me to watch any extra TV (although they invariably let me watch whatever I wanted for however long).

I thought newsprint TV guides were a thing of the past until I found TV Facts at the liquor store in Richfield. It immediately reminded me of my childhood TV watching habits. So I grabbed a copy and a case of beer and booked it out the door to Bud’s house where we played video games all night.

These days I find myself drawn more to the advertisements than the TV listings. Maybe it’s because I don’t even own a television, or maybe it’s because the ads are so full of life and humanity.

I found this popcorn bag at the St Thomas cafeteria a couple weeks ago. It is awesome. I was a little worried that they wouldn’t let me take it if I didn’t purchase the popcorn that would normally go inside. But I asked the cashier anyway and he said it was fine. Whew.

I’ve been capturing photos of these great billboards around town. This one was sent to me by my friend Megan. She snapped it at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Rice Street in St Paul. She was having car troubles and was stranded at the corner with her 4 month old daughter and all of their stuff when she took this photo. “I just wish we had a shopping cart for all dis shit.” she says.
You can see more photos on my Window World! flickr set.
So if you seem ‘em, snap ‘em, and send ‘em. Nickzdon@hotmail.com

I remember one evening, after drinking at the bar all night, hanging out with Tony at his small apartment in St Paul’s Midway. I opened the fridge to grab another beer and found that the shelves on the inside of the door were jammed full of packets of hot sauce, soy sauce, duck sauce, Ketchup, and god knows what else. I asked him what he needed all that sauce for, and he told me, “I’m not saving the sauce, I’m saving the freeness.” At that moment I was enlightened.
